The counterattack of the timer
Category : GENERAL
By Fumitaka KIMIZUKA And So Matsuda (Japan)
This app was made for AI speakers. Unlike other AI, it asks people a favor. For example, “Tell me when 5 seconds have passed”. The AI can precisely count the time so it won’t miss even 0.01 seconds. The speaker stand is shaped like a human being which makes AI seem really bossy.
Completely changing the master-slave relationship between AI and human beings, it encourages people to reconsider how they should use AI.
I built apps in Alexa Skill, a Google Assistant app and Clova Skill. I 3D-printed a speaker stand for the GoogleHome mini and combined it with the Google Assistant app.

Designer/Creative Director"The fact that more people are able to understand an issue is sure to create a fertile soil for more people to engage in discussion.
By expressing a heavy theme in a simple and cynical fashion, I think this work invites more people to take part in discussions regarding AI.
By reversing the master-servant relationship between AI and humans, it urges us to reflect deeply on characteristically human phenomena such as wordless communications and unspoken agreements, which have been in place since time immemorial. (84 words)"
