Slow-Time - Incense Timer
By : drtomi
Entrant’s location : Qatar
Description
The design provides an alternative, more instinctual and and sensorial, method for perceiving the passing of time. It uses an incense-stick as a timing device which, attached horizontally across a delineated tray, burns slowly at a constant pace (approximately two-minutes per segment), leaving a trail of ashes that indicate the passing of time. The design allows one not only perceive the extent of time, but also (if one is perceptive enough) to 'smell' the time... The design was made of 3D printed black steel.

Why did you make it?
The design provides an alternative understanding of time. Here as something softer, intimate, more nuanced and individual, compared to the more metric, uniform and systematic manner it is usually thought about. Here time is classified as something more personal and layered , something more like a fragrance.
How did you make it?
The design was 3D printed out of steel.
