Description

In the face of the information explosion today, we are in a massive torrent of information, the perception of time and space is different from the past. Everything you see and hear in daily life, the five senses received by the body may be quantified as a series of data or a set of tables. Under the premise, perhaps the reality we perceive will also be transformed into a virtual data. I collected climate data from 2015-2018 on the website: (https://weatherspark.com/), and convert this data into a self-rotating and changing earth model by coding. The energy consumption generated by a computer calculation that forms a loading symbol - the Spinning pinwheel. It becomes a transition from data to visual images. The two rotation images on the screen seem like a contrast between virtual and reality, one presents the environmental changes in reality, and the other visualizes the information processing in the virtual.

What did you create?

“Earth’s rotation” is a video installation. I collected climate data from 2015-2018 on the website, and convert this data into a rotating and changing earth model. The energy consumption generated by a computer calculation that forms a loading symbol - the Spinning pinwheel. Two rotation images on the screen seem like a contrast between virtual and reality, one presents the environmental changes in reality, and the other visualizes the information processing in the virtual.

Why did you make it?

In the face of the information explosion today, we are in a massive torrent of information, the perception of time and space is different from the past. Everything we see and hear in daily life, the five senses received by the body may be quantified as a series of data or a set of tables. Under the premise, perhaps the reality we perceive will also be transformed into a virtual data. I am trying to find a kind of image that can describe this huge data worlds, a kind of image that connects the real and virtual.

How did you make it?

I first got the database I needed from the internet, and import these data into processing. Then I make a model of the Earth through CINEMA 4D and try to combine the data with this model. In the end, I use the Unity engine to convert the collected data into visual images.
